MobiloPhobia
The panacea of openness and accessibility
has not arrived, and pervasive technologies such as mobile
phones are increasing exploited as tools of surveillance and
social control. Where MobiloTopia at Transmediale explored
the utopian hopes generated by mobile media, MobiloPhobia
looks at the dystopian vision of a future in which our every
move is monitored and tracked. It will explore how the ideology
of free and open communication contrasts with specific ways
in which media are embedded in the everyday, the limits and
possibilities that arise on the boundary between open and
closed nodes, how communication media can be appropriated,
and ways of intervening in systems of control.
